ZCAN   BT-WiFi

General Description

 

 

ZCAN BT-WiFi is a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combo radio product, specifically tailored to the needs of the low power IoT applications. The Wi-Fi radio supports the IEEE 802.11b/g/n and 11ax standards. The 11ax (Wi-Fi 6) functionality is limited to 20/40MHz and lower bandwidth channels (down to 2MHz) in the 2.4GHz band, typically used for lower data rate IoT applications. The Wi-Fi 6 protocol compliance makes this product future proof and facilitates coexistence of low power (sensor) nodes with high data rate terminals in the same Wi-Fi 6 network without impeding the network performance.

The Bluetooth radio is compliant with the version 5 of the Bluetooth Core Specification. It supports Basic Rate, Enhanced Data Rate EDR, 1 Mb/s and 2 Mb/s Low-Energy (BLE) and Long-Range. This product is optimized for low cost Wi-Fi + Bluetooth applications. Shared antenna connection reduces the external BoM, while shared internal circuitry reduces the chip area and therefore product costs. Consequently, the BT and Wi-Fi operations are mutually exclusive. 

 

 

Wi-Fi Functionality

 

 

The Wi-Fi radio architecture uses direct conversion in both transmit and receive modes. Programmable analog channel filtering supports modulation bandwidths of 20 and 40MHz. In the 11ax mode of operation, narrower channels of 8/4/2MHz can be selected using digital filtering. Integrated power amplifier and transmit/receive switches minimize application effort, board space, and BoM cost.

 

 

Bluetooth Functionality

 

 

The Bluetooth radio shares the RF transceiver signal path with the Wi-Fi radio for low cost optimization. The Bluetooth transceiver has a low-IF receive, and a direct conversion transmit architecture, both with minimal analog complexity. In the receiver, full channel selectivity, carrier frequency offset correction, symbol timing recovery and bit detection are performed in the digital domain.
